Los Angeles, CA - September 20 - Los Angeles City Council President Eric Garcetti & Women In Film/Los Angeles International Committee presents A Focus on International Short Films: An Evening of Haitian Filmmaking. This inaugural outing will take place on Sunday, October 14, 2007 from 5:00pm-9:00pm at the Barnsdall Gallery Theatre in Hollywood, California. This year’s focus will be on short films by Haitian filmmakers from around the world.
Nine films have been selected for this years event. Our film selections include: Bohio directed by Jean Willy Gerdes; Breeze directed by Barbara Sanon; Bringing Up BayBay produced by Florence Regina; Brooklyn Racine produced by Magali Damas; Courage des Femme directed by Arnold Antonin; Delivering Louverture directed by Michelson Civil; Mandingo In a Box directed by Daheli Hall; Solus produced by Benjamin Louis; The Violence directed by Michele Stevenson.
More than just a screening, you will experience Haitian culture with music, food and a special appearance by world renowned dancer Elizabeth Chin and Troupe Ayizan. Following the screening will be a Q & A with the filmmakers.
Each year A Focus on International Short Films will feature short films by filmmakers from different parts of the world. We will explore new cultures (e.g., Mexico, China, Africa, India, etc.) and the role of their histories and identities in influencing artists and filmmakers.
“An Evening of Haitian Filmmaking is the first of its kind for the Haitian and Caribbean communities in Los Angeles, and we are looking forward to giving filmmakers from other cultures an opportunity to have their work seen”, said event producer Florence Regina.
